Crusaders claim Region 17 title

RIVERDALE -- They have played four times this season, with each team winning twice.

Undefeated Region 17 regular-season champion St. Joseph clipped the Crusaders twice during league play, but Christian Heritage knocked down the Jayhawks at the Jayhawk Invitational and then again Saturday in the championship match of the Region 17 volleyball tournament.

Jayhawks topple Crusaders / Franklin notches 200th career win

OGDEN -- How is a team with no seniors leading the Region 17 volleyball race with an undefeated record?

"I expect our girls to be mentally tough, but not to the point of being cocky," St. Joseph coach Ray Franklin said. "These girls just want it more; you could see that in Game 5."

Baseball teams in growth mode

RIVERDALE -- The perspective of the local 1-A baseball teams has certainly changed in the past few years.
Last year, St. Joseph made a deep push in the playoffs with the help of players like Logan Froerer and Taylor Gallegos. This year's team is somewhat different with a number of youthful players trying to gain some experience.
The same could not be said for Christian Heritage. After having a couple of successful seasons, the team was disbanded because not enough players were able to take the field for the Crusaders.
This year, the Crusaders are once again back in Region 17 with a chance to be successful -- all because of some of the hard work on the players' parts.
