Area churches announce holiday services

From dealing with holiday grief to hearing a traditional Christmas message, area churches have planned a number of special events through the next week that are open to the public.

Change of scene: 'Messiah' sing-in moved to Catholic church

SOUTH OGDEN -- "Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah."

The annual Ogden Messiah Sing-in will take place Sunday.

It's on a different date and at a different location, but it's the same event that's been celebrated in Ogden for three decades.

Public invited to bells concert at church

OGDEN -- The Bountiful Bells Choir will perform at the Congregational United Church of Christ at 3 p.m. today.

The bell choir has performed in the Ogden area for the past 30 years. The musicians will offer a mix of holiday music and other songs.

A free-will offering will be taken. The public is welcome.

Grace Bible invites public to two Christmas events

PLEASANT VIEW — Grace Bible Ministries invites the public to two Christmas events.

The first is the screening of “The Nativity Story” at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Public invited to holiday bell concert

OGDEN -- Community United Methodist Church invites the public to its annual Christmas Bell Concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church, 163 W. 4800 South, Ogden.

The concert will feature the Children's Chime Choir; the youth bell choir Ringers of the Light; and the adult bell choirs the Genesis Ringers and the Grace Notes. The concert is free and open to the public. Child care is available if needed.

The Ringers of the Light will sponsor a soup and potato bar beginning at 5:30 p.m. Reservations must be made for the dinner and the proceeds will go toward Youth Bell Camp.

Santa's haul at Weber State University destined for Catholic Community Services

OGDEN -- Blitzen and Snowflake butted antlers Wednesday, a playful attempt at performing reindeer games for spectators gathered around the animals' pen just outside Weber State University's Shepherd Union Building.

Kids and Christmas benefit show set

WASHINGTON TERRACE -- Local performing groups will put on the annual Kids and Christmas benefit concert at 7 p.m. today at Bonneville High School, 251 E. Laker Way.

Santa 5K, electric parade, festivities ring in holiday season

PLAIN CITY -- A family here is offering a simple but what they hope will be a profound gift to the community this season.

The Barnes family at 3107 W. 2600 North is offering a free live Nativity from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday in their backyard.

Christmas auction, dinner aims to raise funds for abuse victims

LAYTON -- The goal of the 15th annual Evergreens and Christmas Things is to raise $125,000 to help the many Davis County victims of domestic abuse who receive services from Safe Harbor Crisis Center.

Cemeteries aglow as loved ones remembered

Two hundred candles burning at Christmastime sounded beautiful to Mike Leavitt.

It was a custom a colleague told Leavitt about years ago, which the colleague did every year during the holidays at his Texas mortuary.

But Leavitt says he soon realized that, if 200 lighted candles sounded pretty, a few thousand would be even better.

"We want to do something spectacular," he thought back then, when he first decided to cover the grounds of his Ogden cemetery in December with 3,500 to 4,000 luminarias.

Shupe's band rocks Davis Christmas concert

LAYTON — Ryan Shupe & the Rubberband pleased both the near-capacity crowd and the Davis Arts Council with its “DAC the Halls” Christmas concert.
