Lights! Music! Action! Man syncs lights at Layton park with holiday tunes

LAYTON -- Walt Disney may have come up with the term "plussing," but Don Wilhelm is living proof of the idea.

By providing service throughout Layton, those affected by Wilhelm's work say he is the perfect example of Disney's phrase, which means taking a good idea and making it better.

Bountiful man syncs light display with music

BOUNTIFUL -- For Rick Rice, Christmas began in July, when he started programming his light displays.

His are not just ordinary Christmas lights, but 17,000 lights that flash, fade, shimmer and chase one another in precise timing with music.

Of course, this meant listening to the music hundreds of times to get the lights matched up to the exact millisecond, which Rice did in the summer heat as he listened to songs about halls being decked with holly and sugarplum fairies enjoying a holly, jolly Christmas.

LIGHT WARS

Oh Christmas house, oh Christmas house,

How lovely are your lights.

In red and green and blue and orange,

Twinkling through the nights.

It's a lovely holiday image, isn't it? Or does this revised carol sound more like your perfect holiday nightmare?

Yank down that multicolored mess of electrification, you cry. String up clear lights instead, strand after strand of pure whiteness shining along the eaves.

'Raunchy' Christmas deer light display brings complaints

HARRISVILLE -- It's a redneck Christmas on Larsen Lane where Isaac Oberg has created a unique outdoor display.

Oberg, a self-proclaimed redneck, has three lighted Christmas deer in his yard. One deer is hanging from a tree with red lights representing flowing entrails, and two are stacked on top of each other simulating copulation with red lights representing male genitalia.

Residents honored for Christmas lights

The city recently honored its top four residents with the best Christmas lights. Each year the city council visits those nominated for the lighting contest and picks a winner.

The grand prize winner was Steve Gorlaski at 5843 S. 2950 West, with Tyson and Desa Barber in second place; Janice Wolsey in third and Bob and Bonnie Morgan, fourth. Winners received a small cash award from the city.

Lit! Those tiny twinkling bulbs light up Top of Utah

A few Top of Utah residents can give Clark Griswold's trademark holiday spirit a run for its money.

Griswold, played by Chevy Chase in the 1989 comedy "Christmas Vacation," was infatuated with the idea of the perfect Christmas -- including a house that glowed in the snow, plastered from foundation to chimney in holiday lights.

Share the joy

Go ahead, release your inner Clark Griswold.

Got an ornate holiday display that you're just dying for the rest of the Top of Utah to see? Well, here's your chance. Share the joy of the season with the rest of us by posting a photo to our Spotted website.

Christmas Village lighting ceremony to follow Santa Claus' arrival in Ogden

OGDEN — Even the elves will get in on the fun during Saturday’s lighting of Christmas Village.

“Have Your ’elf a Merry Little Christmas” is the theme for this season’s version of the popular holiday attraction at the Ogden Municipal Gardens, 25th Street and Washington Boulevard.

But before the village lights come on, Santa and his elves must arrive in the annual Holiday Electric Light Parade.
