Thursday, March 18
* Basic Buddhism, second of six 90-minute sessions on basic Buddhist teaching and its practical applications to resolving difficult situations in daily life. Sessions will be at 7 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays in March, April and May at the Ogden Buddhist Church, 155 E. 400 North in Ogden. The class will be taught by the Rev. Jerry Hirano, resident minister of the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple, and his wife, Carmela Javellana, M.D., a psychiatrist in private practice in Salt Lake City, as well as a Minister's Assistant in the Salt Lake Buddhist Church. The class, titled "Into the Light: The Buddhist Path through Suffering," will deal with the Eight Sufferings (struggles) we encounter in human life. It will include topics on ego, mind, neuroplastic (brain) retraining, and some exercises on mindfulness and meditation. Cost: $20 per student to cover the cost of materials.
