PLAIN CITY -- The concession stand at Town Square, 2350 N. 4425 West, is aging and problems with vandalism are adding to concerns about what to do with the structure.
The city council recently discussed whether it was worth preserving and how much money to put into repairs.
Currently, the stand is being used for storage, but may be needed in the future because the city has long been in negotiations with Weber School District to purchase the remainder of the Town Square.
"It's kind of a shame to see it deteriorate like it has," said Mayor Jay Jenkins.
Jenkins said city crews already have done some work on it and replaced one sink. The stand is connected to the restrooms by some roofing, and a possibility could be to tear down one and leave the other standing, he said, adding that the concession stand is older than the restrooms.
Councilwoman LaFray Kelley said she thought the concession stand is still usable and could be painted.
Councilman Brent White urged care in spending money on the stand, but suggested patching the roof to ensure the stored items will stay dry.
Kelley said community development block grant funds may be available for repairs to the stand and the city-owned portion of Town Square.
Jenkins said the city should keep the issue in mind as part of the long-term planning for Town Square.
