Centerville's trails committee has new member

CENTERVILLE -- A new member of the trails committee will be helping encourage use of the city's outdoor areas and will help lead endeavors relating to those spaces.

Richard Turner was appointed to a three-year spot on the city's seven-member trails committee.

Turner, who has lived in the city for eight years, has a bachelor's degree in outdoor recreational therapy.

Last year, the committee hosted spring and fall hikes to raise awareness of the neighboring mountain and updated the city's parks and trails maps.

The group also held the first family bike ride to highlight the new bike corridor on 400 West.

This year's plans include continuing hikes, sponsoring a countywide hike in the fall and starting a new winter snowshoe hike.
