Ogden OKs parade spot camp-out

OGDEN -- You can now camp out on your spot for the Pioneer Days Parade.

The Ogden City Council unanimously approved an ordinance allowing people to camp along the parade route's sidewalk the night before the parade, beginning at 6 p.m.

Blankets, chairs, sleeping bags and cabanas -- but not tents or other enclosures, which are prohibited -- determine the limits of your space, so long as someone is there. People are not allowed to use ropes, tape or obstructions, such as their vehicles, to claim a spot.

The ordinance prohibits pets, outside of service animals or those participating in the parade. It also prohibits fireworks, airsoft guns or other projectiles, and heat sources such as barbecue grills.

The ordinance takes effect in time for this year's parade.
