Farr West approves striping bid

FARR WEST -- Council members approved a bid of $25,800 from Morgan Pavement for striping and slurry on the City Hall parking lot as well as the walking path around the park area.

Councilman Boyd Ferrin said three bids were received for the project. The funds for the project will come from class C road funds.

In other city news council members approved a mixed use zone, something new for the city, which could allow more high density housing in the future, as well as being used for a commercial zone.

Beer license approved in Layton

LAYTON -- The new owner of a Conoco on 1724 Antelope Road has been granted an off premise beer license.

In action taken recently, the city council approved the beer license application of Veronica Jaramillo for the store operating at the corner of Robbins Drive and Antelope near the Tanner Clinic and the Davis Hospital. The change in ownership requires a new license review and approval.

The license allows the company to sell beer but does not allow for its consumption on site.

Farmington storm drain plan update authorized

FARMINGTON -- The city council has authorized an update of the West Farmington storm drain master plan for $39,600.

In action taken recently, the council voted unanimously to authorize the engineering firm of Caldwell, Richards and Sorenson to move ahead with an updated storm drain master plan for all areas west of I-15 in the city. The project will include an evaluation of the land use changes and development occurring in West Farmington, an analysis of the impacts the changes are having on the existing storm drain infrastructure and a projection of future infrastructure needs to support the west side, when the city is built out.

CDBG funds to be used on facade

FARMINGTON -- City leaders have approved an agreement with Davis County to use community development block grant (CDBG) funds to improve the facade of a historic building downtown.

The city council voted unanimously to approve the accord with the county to use $20,000 of CDBG funding to remove a metal facade on the Sessions building located at the northeast corner of State and Main streets and to restore the brick work where practical.

Farmington officials reject vote by mail possibility

FARMINGTON -- There is no appetite among city leaders in this community to change the method of voting for the coming election cycle from traditional ballots to a vote by mail approach.

City Manager Dave Millheim broached the subject of potentially moving to a vote by mail election this year during a recent city meeting and was told there is no interest among city council members to pursue the issue any further.

Council expands Own in Ogden to help teachers, school administrators

OGDEN — The city is expanding its “Own in Ogden” program to allow more people to receive down-payment help on home loans.

The city council voted Tuesday night to change the city’s Own in Ogden Down Payment Assistance Program to add teachers and school administrators to the list of public employees who qualify for increased down-payment assistance within the program.

The program was created to assist potential homeowners with a zero-interest down-payment assistance of $5,000 for the purchase of a home in the east-central area of Ogden and $3,000 in other areas of the city.

Power going off for 8 hours Saturday in Kaysville to move transmission lines

KAYSVILLE — About 5,000 customers with Kaysville City Power will not have any electricity for eight hours beginning at 11 p.m. Saturday.

Odd parcel rezoned for homes in Layton

LAYTON — City leaders have approved the rezone of almost 10 acres of property at the northeast corner of Church Street and Fairfield Road and have given preliminary approval to a development plan to construct 32 single-family homes on the property.

Residents asked to limit watering to twice a week

Anticipated water shortages this summer have one major water source warning customers about potential policing of water use and outlining new guidelines on when residents should water during the week.

Ivan Ray, general manager of the Davis and Weber Counties Canal Company, on Thursday at a work session in Layton unveiled a plan to address a potential water shortage this summer of 25 to 40 percent. He is expected to make the same presentation and plea to other city councils in the coming weeks.
