City council cancels meeting

The regularly scheduled city council meeting for tonight has been canceled due to the holidays.

Band plans free Christmas concert

The Riverdale City Band will hold a free Christmas concert at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Riverdale Senior Center at 4433 South 900 West. The music is geared to families and all ages are welcome.

Stuffed backpacks donated to shelter

Ogden Clinic and 4TheSolution.org have partnered again to donate and distribute more than 1,000 backpacks filled with necessities to Utah’s needy this holiday season. The care packages were distributed Tuesday afternoon at the Ogden Rescue Mission.

Extra backpacks remaining after the initial distribution will be delivered to homeless shelters in Salt Lake City before Christmas.

School to present Christmas program

Saint Joseph Catholic Elementary School will hold its annual Christmas Mass and program at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 514 24th St. Students in kindergarten through eighth grade have been practicing through the advent season and will perform several numbers following Mass. The public is invited to attend.

Lifeguard classes starting soon

The North Shore Aquatics Center is encouraging those interested in lifeguarding at the pool this summer to get registered for the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Class that starts this January.

It costs $40 for the swim administration fee, due at time of registration, and $130 for the lifeguard course fee, due the first day of class. The classes run from Jan. 18 to Feb. 5 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at the Ben Lomond pool and the North Shore Aquatic Center. City pool starts recruiting staff

The North Shore Aquatic Center is recruiting staff members for next year by having a party from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ben Lomond High School pool, 800 Jackson Ave., Ogden.

Information will be available about hiring, certifications required to be a lifeguard and a timeline of classes offered. Those interested are invited to bring a swim suit and towel. For more information, call Tiffani Staheli at 801-737-0587 or e-mail northshoreguard@gmail.com.

Paving project set for this weekend

The 75 Civil Engineer Squadron has a paving project on Wardleigh Road (Chenault to west of O-3 Storage Lot north of bldg 847).

This effort is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. Wardleigh Road will be partially closed on north side of road. Traffic will be reduced to one lane each way.

City appoints two to commission

The city council has approved the appointment of two members of the city’s Planning Commission, plus two alternates.

In action taken recently, the council approved the appointment of Jim Young to a three-year term and also approved the appointment of Michael Nilson to a four-year term.

Pair appointed to taxing committee

The city council appointed two representatives to serve as its appointees on any taxing entity committees.

The representatives will serve on committees for project areas established by Clearfield’s Community Development and Renewal Agency. They will deal with all matters coming before the taxing entity committee and can approve or disapprove project area budgets or amendments.

Council members Mark Shepherd and Kathryn Murray were appointed as the representatives. They will attend taxing entity meeting and vote on behalf of Clearfield on all matters.

Power pole and loop to be relocated

City officials are officially moving forward with plans to relocate a power pole and loop, located in an area near I-15, which will be widened next year.

In action taken recently, the council voted unanimously to buy a steel power structure to replace a wooden pole and anchors at I-15 and Pages Lane for a cost of $16,279. Costs for the structure and engineering for the project will be reimbursed by the Utah Department of Transportation.

Layton annexing 48.77 acres east of Fairfield

LAYTON -- The city's official boundary is about to get a little bigger.

The city council recently voted to begin the process of annexing approximately 48.77 acres east of Fairfield Road, north of Mutton Hollow Road and west of Boynton Road.

Legacy Prep’s choir sings for Cami

Students from Legacy Preparatory Academy‘s Madrigal Choir group recently braved blustery winds to give a private outdoor performance to 5-year-old Cami Carver, a local child battling leukemia.

The group sang melodious songs including a lullaby. Then the youngster watched as Landry Thomas gave a charming rendition of “That’s How You Know” from the Disney movie Enchanted.

Annual Gatrell concert scheduled

The Ruth Gatrell Singers Christmas 2010 Concert will be held Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. at Farmington City Community Arts Center, at 120 South Main Street.

City renames park for retiring Forbush

City leaders have renamed a city park in honor of retiring city manager Max Forbush.

The park adjacent to the Community Center and city swimming pool on South Main Street has been named Forbush Park in honor of the executive, who was city manager for 33 years and formally stepped down on Wednesday.

Revised site plan for local auto dealer

The city council has approved a revised site plan for an auto dealer in the southern part of the city.

In action taken recently, the council voted unanimously to amend the site plan for Kentson Auto located at approximately 2476 South and 500 West.
