Residents spiff up Ogden River Parkway to observe Earth Day

OGDEN — Earth Day couldn’t have come at a better time for Richard Getz, of Ogden.

A new resident to the area who has relocated from Boston because he was attracted to the outdoors, Getz said he noticed Sunday as he rode his bicycle that the Ogden River Parkway needed a little cleaning up.

Getz said he complained to his neighbor, Robin Pflugrad. And when he did, he found out about an activity Monday night designed to address that very problem.

State issues violation notice to Chevron for Willard Bay spill

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Division of Water Quality issued a Notice of Violation and Compliance Order to Chevron Pipeline Company as a result of the diesel fuel spill near Willard Bay on March 18.

The state is asking Chevron to provide a report on cleanup activities and its response plan for the pipeline rupture that leaked approximately 21,000 gallons of diesel.

The state said the notice is not a penalty.

“Rather, it details findings of fact regarding the spill, violations based on these findings, and mandatory compliance provisions for cleanup and monitoring,” the division said in a news release.

WILLARD BAY — Crews have cleaned up an estimated 506 barrels of the diesel fuel spilled this week at Willard Bay State Park.

ROY — Residents want neighborhoods to be spruced up in Roy, and the city council wants residents to help with the endeavor.

Farr West councilman thanks inmates for help

FARR WEST -- The city is looking cleaner thanks to the efforts of inmates who have been cleaning along the freeway and by the recreation center, according to Councilman Lee Dickemore.

“There is a significant improvement, and they have cleaned around City Hall,” said Dickemore, who also said the inmates would be finishing a project at the city shop that scouts had started.

Bountiful cleanup project on the schedule

BOUNTIFUL -- A fall cleanup project has been scheduled for Oct. 8-12.

During the special event, residents can get rid of properly bundled, bagged or boxed trash, refuse, or limbs and trees that are cut and tied in 5-foot lengths.

Pleasant View polishing streets for season

PLEASANT VIEW -- The city is being polished up for fall, according to City Administrator Melinda Brimhall.

She said sidewalks in the community are being repaired, with grinding and re-pouring of concrete. She also said weeds had been cut and removed on 2700 North.

Federal grant awarded to cleanup possible contaminated properties in Ogden, Salt Lake County

OGDEN -- Federal, state and local officials will announce today that a $1 million grant has been awarded to establish a revolving loan fund for the cleanup of possibly contaminated properties in Ogden and Salt Lake County.

Pleasant View council OKs spring cleanup vouchers for green waste facility

PLEASANT VIEW — The city council has decided to provide vouchers for residents to use at the Weber County green waste facility.

In previous years, Pleasant View has had a spring cleanup service, with city employees using city trucks to pick up green waste from the curb. Last year, the council did away with that project because of problems, including improper items left out for pickup and the time city employees spent searching for the green waste throughout Pleasant View.

The summer to-do list that, this year, really will get done

OK, gang, this is it: The summer I do everything I am supposed to do. Yeah, I know. I said that last year. And the year before. And the year before.

Didn’t happen.

Clearfield plans annual cemetery cleanup

The city is gearing up for its annual cemetery clean up.

The parks and recreation department will host the cleanup at Clearfield Memorial Park, 1050 S. State St., April 4 from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents are asked to remove any gravesite decorations they wish to save before that date, because all remaining items will be discarded.

If the weather is not good on April 4, the plan is to move the date to April 11.
