CLEARFIELD -- The Clearfield Police K9 Turo is retiring after many years of service.

The city council approved an agreement allowing him to be adopted by his current handler officer Jeromy Jackson. He has agreed to assume full responsibility for the dog's actions.

City Manager Chris Hillman said it is standard practice for the dog to be adopted. The handler always has right of first refusal.

In this case, the dog has already been staying with the Jackson family.

Turo is Clearfield's only police dog and there are no plans to replace him this fiscal year. The cost for such dogs ranges from $10,000 to $15,000.
