Umpires needed for Clinton youth programs

CLINTON -- The recreation department is accepting applications for umpires for the youth baseball and softball programs. Adults and youth are encouraged to apply and must be 14 years of age or older as of May 14.

Pay and number of games umpired per week will be based on testing, training, availability and skill level. Previous experience isn’t necessary, but applicants should have a basic understanding of baseball and softball.

Information on the program, rules and by-laws will be provided. Applicants will be tested on the information and then enrolled in the training program if passed.

Community gardens available in Clinton

CLINTON --The city’s “Community Garden Plots” will be available again this year at West Fairfield Park, located at 1500 W. 600 North.

The plots will be approximately 20-feet by 20-feet with water provided. They are available by reservation only and will be ready to plant on or after May 12.

Police led on slow-speed chase through Davis/Weber counties

CLINTON — Two men are facing charges after leading police on a slow-speed chase through three cities and two counties.

Clinton police booked John C. Randall, 28, of Clinton, and Jordan Daniel Myers, 36, of Brigham City, into Davis County Jail on no bail Monday night following a 15-minute chase.

Police Chief Bill Chilson said a Clinton police officer spotted a car driving erratically near 500 W. 2300 North at 10 p.m. Monday.

Clinton home damaged by fire

CLINTON -- A smoldering cigarette caused a grass fire that spread to a nearby house at 1551 N. 1500 West, damaging siding on the structure and a utility room.

A truck parked in the driveway also was damaged by the blaze.

Firefighters said the cigarette was discarded and fell into dry grass along the driveway. The grass ignited and spread to the house.

There were no injuries. No estimate of damages was available.

Contamination plumes shrinking, Hill official tell Clinton council

CLINTON — Thanks to constant vigilance and monitoring, water contamination — the result of years of improper disposal of chemicals from Hill Air Force Base — is slowly being done away with, says a representative from Hill.

Clinton officials refuse comment, action over flooding claim until lawsuit resolved

CLINTON — Fernando Orosco has periodic flooding in his basement. Orosco claims that, based on lab testing, the water is culinary water, which he suspects is coming from a Clinton city water leak.

Clinton wants to hear ideas from residents

The city council will hold several information-gathering meetings to begin the process of updating the general plan.

The purpose of the meetings is to hear residents’ ideas and desires to plan for the future of the city.

According to City Planner Steve Parkinson, the general plan for the city was last updated in 1984. Dates, as printed in the Clinton newsletter include: Jan. 31, Feb. 10 and Feb. 24, tentatively March 5, and if needed March 16. All meetings will be held at the Clinton Recreation Center located at 1651 W. 2300 North, each starting at 7 p.m.
