SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake City International Airport plans to consolidate its three terminals into one to increase efficiency.
An environmental study that will be ready for public review next summer is under way.
The airport plans to replace the current layout with two parallel rows of concourses connected to one terminal. Planners say the design will let planes enter from one end and exit the other, eliminating many taxiing delays.
The project is projected to take a decade or more, likely starting with a new parking garage. Costs haven't yet been pinned down.
Salt Lake is Delta Air Lines' westernmost hub for domestic flights.
Runways and flight patterns are not expected to change. Salt Lake's airport has 83 gates now and served 20 million passengers last year.
