Worker injured by track hoe bucket

CLEARFIELD — A construction worker almost had part of his foot amputated Wednesday evening.

The middle-aged man, who was not identified, was working in a trench near Syracuse High School when the bucket of a track hoe came down on his leg. He received a deep cut near his ankle, said North Davis Fire District Deputy Chief Mark Becraft.

“They were laying down pipe for a storm sewer, I believe,” Becraft said. “We gave him treatment and had to extricate him from the trench.”

An Air Med flight crew transported the man from the scene to University Hospital in Salt Lake City. His injury is not life-threatening, Becraft said.

The incident appears to have been an accident, he said.
