Home demolished in North Salt Lake

NORTH SALT LAKE — After all of the permits had been issued for the demolition of a home on Springhill Circle, contractors began destroying the home on Thursday.

North Salt Lake Mayor Len Arave said the demolition was necessary because of the damage the home received from a slow-moving landslide.

“It’s like watching a train wreck in slow motion,” Arvae aid.

The slide pushing up against the home to the point it sustained significant structural damage, including heaving in the interior floor and posts on the front of the house, which once supported the covered deck, had fallen.

The home had been vacant for six to nine months.

Arave said 13 homes are being affected by the landslide, which moves about a foot per year, and two of those homes are vacant.
