NORTH SALT LAKE -- The Utah Department of Transportation says a contractor must pay the full cost of highway repairs after plans to drill for a pipeline under Interstate 15 caused road damages.
KSL-TV reports the drilling caused road closures from Saturday to Tuesday on U.S. 89 and Interstate 215 while crews filled the faulty tunnel.
Utah Department of Transportation officials had discovered the deep tunnel was collapsing under I-15.
Transportation officials would not identify the name of the contractor or how much it cost to fix the roads. They said the company's permit to drill under I-15 would be suspended until it has a safer drilling plan.
The contractor was drilling holes below I-15 to feed pipe into a natural gas pipeline.
