Davis courthouse to be closed Thursday, Friday for Thanksgiving

FARMINGTON — The Davis County Memorial Courthouse will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The courthouse, at 28 E. State St. in downtown Farmington, will reopen to the public at 8 a.m. Monday.

Davis County transfers funds to renovate courthouse campus

FARMINGTON -- The $22.5 million Davis County Memorial Courthouse campus renovation remains on schedule and on budget, officials say.

The Davis County Commission recently approved the transfer of $3.5 million from its general fund to its capital improvement fund.

Ducklings get their day in court ­- in a cardboard box

FARMINGTON -- The Davis County Memorial Courthouse is no place for ducks.

Just the same, two ducklings recently took up temporary residence there, with each laying claim to its own deep courthouse window well just outside the Davis County Commission's office.

Armed, distraught man gets into courthouse

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A man distraught about his divorce case entered the crowded lobby of the Broward County Courthouse Friday morning, pointed a handgun at himself and demanded to speak with a judge.

Courthouse deputies saw Marin Stroia, 59, of Oakland Park enter the courthouse lobby through an unmanned exit door at 9:25 a.m. As deputies approached, Stroia sat on the lobby floor next to the escalator, the weapon pointed at his chest.

While filling in during bond court hearings Friday, retired Judge Joel T. Lazarus said he became aware of what was happening one floor below and was told that a man wanted to speak with a judge.
