Utah teen charged as adult in classmate slaying

SALT LAKE CITY -- A Utah teenager has been charged as an adult with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of a 15-year-old classmate in an argument authorities say stemmed from a dispute over an iPod.

Jonatan Bustos appeared Tuesday by closed-circuit video from the Salt Lake County jail for arraignment and designation as an adult by Third District Court Judge Deno Himonas.

Bustos' mother watched in the courtroom as the judge set a Thursday hearing for Bustos to appear with a public defense lawyer.

Bustos is accused of stabbing Taylor Pankow twice Aug. 30 during a scuffle in front of a Family Dollar discount store in West Valley City. Pankow died of a stab wound to the chest.

Both boys attended Hunter High School in West Valley City.
