Trial venue in Utah deputy shooting moved

SALT LAKE CITY -- A Fillmore judge has ordered the trial of a man charged as an accomplice in the fatal shooting of a sheriff's deputy moved out of Millard County.

KSL-TV reports that 4th District Court Judge David Eyre has granted a motion from defense attorneys for Ruben Chavez-Reyes that moves the trial to nearby Juab County.

Defense attorneys say Chavez-Reyes could not get a fair trial in Fillmore.

Court records show Eyre issued the decision last week.

The trial is set to begin on Monday.

Chavez-Reyes is charged with obstructing justice. Prosecutors say he helped Roberto Roman escape after Roman allegedly shot and killed Deputy Josie Greathouse Fox during a traffic stop on Jan. 5.

Roman faces a capital murder charge for the fatal shooting.
