FARMINGTON -- A man suspected of robbing the Dollar Tree in Layton pleaded not guilty Monday.
Robert Stephen Gibbs, 21, is charged with first-degree felony aggravated robbery. He was arrested Feb. 2 after police pulled him over for speeding and driving without his lights on. The officer then noticed he fit the description of a suspect in a robbery that had occurred minutes earlier at the Dollar Tree. Gibbs is scheduled to return to court March 28.
In Gibbs' car, police found a Dollar Tree bag with two candy bars in it, matching the items the robbery suspect had purchased before showing a gun to the cashier and demanding money. Police also found an airsoft gun in the car.
The Dollar Tree cashier positively identified Gibbs as the man who attempted to rob the store.
