Man faces first-degree felony murder charges

FARMINGTON — A 28-year-old man has been charged with first-degree felony murder in the shooting death of his father.

Joseph Allen Nance is expected to appear in 2nd District Court in Farmington at 1:30 p.m. Monday for his first hearing.

Nance, who is being held in the Davis County Jail on $100,000 bail, is also charged with third-degree felony possession of a firearm by a restricted person.

Both charges stem from the shooting death of 52-year-old Gregory Nancy at the Far West Motel in Kaysville on Saturday.

Police said Gregory Nance had kicked his ex-wife and their son out of the motel after they had been living with him. Joseph Nance went back to the motel and shot his father.

After searching all night for Joseph Nance, police found him in a makeshift shelter in Layton. Nance admitted to shooting his father and claimed self-defense, police said.
