SALT LAKE CITY -- A Utah town councilman has been charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal in connection with the fatal shooting of his neighbor's dog.
Duchesne County prosecutors filed the misdemeanor charge against Rickey E. Wilberg, who is also charged with misdemeanor intoxication.
An initial appearance is set for Thursday in Duchesne's 8th District Court, about 114 miles southwest of Salt Lake City.
Prosecutors contend Wilberg, a Tabiona town councilman, shot and killed a 9-month-old Chihuahua belonging to Peggy Redmiles with a .22-caliber rifle.
If convicted of shooting the dog, Wilberg faces up to one year in a county jail and fines.
A phone number for Wilberg was disconnected and it wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.
