FARMINGTON -- A 51-year-old man has been charged with three counts of cruelty to an animal for leaving his Pekingese inside a vehicle for five hours.
Carl Sherman Setters, of Layton, appeared on the class B misdemeanors in 2nd District Court in Layton on Tuesday. He was then booked and released from Davis County Jail.
Davis County Animal Services Director Clint Thacker said witnesses told officers the dog was inside the car for five hours at a mobile home park in Layton on June 22. Temperatures outside were 85 degrees but temperatures inside the vehicle were almost 110 degrees. Leaving a window cracked does little to help the pet, Thacker said, because the heat coming off the asphalt and entering the vehicle creates an oven effect.
