FARMINGTON -- Two people charged with the kidnapping of a 1-year-old entered not guilty pleas Thursday.
Kayla Anne Roybal, 18, and David Wayne Hogan, Jr., 19, appeared in 2nd District Court in Farmington.
Hogan appeared first, charged with first-degree felony kidnapping and third-degree felony theft. A pretrial conference is set for Oct. 29.
A sentencing hearing in a separate case involving the same infant is set for Thursday. Hogan had pleaded guilty on Aug. 27 to a second-degree felony of inflicting serious physical injury on a child intentionally. He could be sentenced to one to 15 years in Utah State Prison.
Roybal is charged with first-degree felony kidnapping and two class A misdemeanors.
Her pretrial conference is set for Nov. 5.
Judge Thomas L. Kay lifted the "no contact order" placed against Roybal, who can now have contact with her mother, the legal guardian of the boy, who is Roybal's biological son. According to the probable cause statement, Roybal's parental rights were terminated by the court in August.
Police said the two planned to take the child to Oklahoma.
The two were arrested Sept. 30 by Layton police after the toddler was returned.
Layton police received a 911 emergency call from the grandmother, who said the child had been taken from the home by Roybal and Roybal's boyfriend, Hogan, who is not the biological father of the child.
