Utah politicians want recognition for Ogden police

OGDEN -- Utah politicians from here to Washington D.C., are using legislation to recognize the sacrifice of the officers involved in the Jan. 4 Jackson Avenue shooting.

Body found in Roy backyard

ROY -- Under a gloomy, slate-colored sky, police made the grim discovery Thursday of a body buried in the backyard of a Roy residence.

Man wanted for abuse of woman

SYRACUSE — Jay Wilson, 66, has a warrant out for his arrest for sexually abusing and groping a woman.

He was charged with forcible sodomy, forcible sexual abuse and sexual battery in 2nd District Court on Thursday. A warrant for Wilson’s arrest was filed the same day.

Alleged child sex abuser now faces kidnapping charge

OGDEN — A man already charged with sexually abusing a child now faces a child kidnapping charge as well.

Christopher Doutre, 26, was charged with attempted child kidnapping, a first-degree felony, in 2nd District Court on Thursday.

Man charged with abusing young girl

OGDEN — Matthew Gustafson, 19, was charged Thursday with sexually abusing a young girl.

Two charges of the forcible sexual abuse of a child were filed in 2nd District Court against the Ogden man.

Gustafson was at the home of a 9-year-old girl last Christmas when he touched her private area over the top of her clothing, according to a probable cause affidavit. The girl told her parents what happened after he left.

Prison terms beckon for man convicted of raping girl

OGDEN -- A former Ogden man has been sentenced to consecutive 15 years-to-life terms in Utah State Prison for extended sexual abuse of a young girl.

ROY — Layton police confirmed this afternoon a body has been found at a Roy home.

Social worker says Josh Powell told son he had 'surprise'

 

SEATTLE  — The Washington state social worker who was supposed to supervise a visit between Josh Powell and his young sons says Powell told his oldest boy he had a "surprise" for him moments before attacking and killing the children.

LA school in sex abuse case gets entire new staff

LOS ANGELES -- An entirely new staff of teachers will greet students Thursday at an elementary school rocked last week by the arrests of two longtime teachers on lewdness charges.

Judge closes Hoggan hearing

OGDEN — A preliminary hearing was set Wednesday in 2nd District Juvenile Court for May 10-11 in the case of 16-year-old Joshua Kyler Hoggan, charged in what authorities say was a plot to detonate a bomb at Roy High School.

 

Trece lawyer seeking Supreme hearing

OGDEN -- A Trece gang member is taking Ogden's gang injunction to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Isaac Rader is challenging his prosecution under, and the constitutionality of, the injunction against members of the Trece gang.

Enacted in September 2010, the injunction bans Trece members from associating together in public, being in the vicinity of drugs, alcohol or firearms and sets an 11 p.m.

OGDEN — Christopher Doutre, 26, is accused of sexually abusing a child.

Vigil set today for Powell boys

OGDEN — The community is invited to attend a pinwheel vigil for Charles Powell, 7, and Braden Powell, 5, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at the southwest corner of the Ogden City Municipal Garden, 343 25th St.

Froerer's bill adds to 'spice' banned list

SALT LAKE CITY -- The day following a raid at a Midvale business for allegedly selling synthetic marijuana often called "spice," a legislative committee approved a bill that could make more chemicals illegal.
