ROY -- An 18-year-old Ogden man who was critically stabbed in a Roy park last week is now in jail on aggravated robbery charges.
Police now believe the victim, Luis Daniel Torres, actually started the violent confrontation by pulling a starter pistol on Angelo Noe Martinez, 28, of Layton, and attempting to rob him for drugs.
Martinez was arrested not long afterward and is accused of stabbing Torres several times. He remains in jail on one count of aggravated assault and other drugs and weapons charges.
A group of men involved in the alleged drug deal reportedly drove Torres to Roy police headquarters after the attack Jan. 8 and left him in the north parking lot.
Torres sustained life-threatening injuries, including wounds to a lung and his spleen.
Police say Torres is cooperating with the investigation. He was released from the hospital Wednesday and booked into Weber County Jail, where he's being held on one count of aggravated robbery and an immigration hold.
On Monday, police arrested one other man involved in the scuffle. Russell Harold Walters, 22, of Roy, was charged Wednesday with one count of felony aggravated robbery.
Police say two groups arranged to meet in West Park near 4500 S. 2900 West to carry out a drug deal. Torres was attempting to buy drugs from Martinez, but sometime during the deal, Torres pulled the pistol and tried to rob Martinez, said Sgt. Danny Hammon.
Martinez reportedly pulled a knife and fought back.
Police recovered the knife and pistol.
Detectives are still interviewing others to determine if anyone else played a role in the attack, but Hammon said the three main suspects in the altercation are in custody.
