2 charged in robbery of cyber cafe in Layton

FARMINGTON -- Two suspects have been charged in connection with an armed robbery that happened almost a year ago.

Allen Max Padilla, 35, and Eduardo Cid-Vargas, 20, have been charged in 2nd District Court in Farmington in connection with an armed robbery at City Cyber Cafe in Layton on March 2, 2009.

Padilla, who was booked into Weber County Jail, is charged with first-degree felony aggravated robbery and third-degree felony theft. He had a court hearing Wednesday in Farmington.

Cid-Vargas, who is serving time in Utah State Prison on unrelated charges, is charged with third-degree felony aggravated robbery and third-degree felony theft.

Layton Police Lt. Quinn Moyes said detectives have worked on the case since it happened and recently received a tip from informants about Padilla's involvement.

According to the arrest warrant filed in court, Padilla took a cash box from City Cyber Cafe with more than $1,000 in it. He left in a vehicle driven by another person.

That person, according to court documents, is Cid-Vargas. He has a court hearing set for Feb. 22.

The robbery was one of several in a string of Top of Utah armed robberies at the time. Police said they do not think they are all connected.
