Clinton man arrested in Ogden after threatening girlfriend with garden tool

OGDEN -- A Clinton man was arrested Wednesday in Ogden after allegedly threatening his girlfriend with a garden tool. Jesse Martinez, 27, was riding in his girlfriend's car near 17th Street and Washington Boulevard around noon when she said she would leave him if he didn't straighten out, Ogden Lt. Dave Tarran said.

Martinez then grabbed a hand trowel with a serrated edge and threatened the woman, Tarran said. She stopped the car and ran to the home of an acquaintance on the 300 block of Parry Street. Martinez went after her and forced her out of the house, but the acquaintance intervened while the girlfriend called police, Tarran said.

While authorities arrived to the aid of the girlfriend, Martinez drove off. He was located later, Tarran said, but not before he had chopped his ponytail and ditched his jacket to change his appearance.

Martinez was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault, fleeing arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia, Tarran said.
