Suspected thief traced through stolen car

SOUTH OGDEN -- A man suspected in a number of vehicle and credit card thefts throughout Weber County was arrested over the weekend after police say they traced a car stolen from a South Ogden parking lot to him.

Michael Aldo Stoker, 33, is charged with a felony count each of theft and burglary, as well possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges stem from a vehicle theft that occurred on May 3.

Police say Stoker broke into an employee locker at Big Lots, 3801 S. Washington Blvd., South Ogden, then used a set of keys he found to drive off in an employee's car.

Police in Riverdale also suspect Stoker may have been involved in a number of thefts in their jurisdiction that matched the method used in this case, but charges haven't been brought against him in those thefts.

Stoker was found in a home Thursday on the 2200 block of Jackson Avenue. Officers confiscated a large amount of drug paraphernalia and stolen credit cards during a search of the home. The vehicle that was taken from the Big Lots parking lot was found nearby.

Stoker has a lengthy criminal history and has two other active cases involving theft.

He faces charges in Ogden of felony theft and vehicle burglary from a case in April.

In March, Weber State University Police screened two felony charges of unlawful acquisition, possession or transfer of a credit card against Stoker. Stoker has also had previous run-ins with authorities in South Ogden. He was sentenced to prison and served two concurrent sentences in 2006 after pleading guilty to theft charges in South Ogden and Ogden.

Stoker is due back in court May 18 on the latest charges.
