FARMINGTON -- A Midvale defense attorney wanted by Cottonwood Heights police posted $150,007 bail and was released from Davis County Jail 20 minutes after being booked.
Now a federal warrant for flight could be issued for Harold Wilson Stone III before the end of the day, said Cottonwood Police Officer Beau Babka.
"We're not done with Mr. Stone," Babka said.
Stone showed up at Bountiful Police Department on Tuesday, said Bountiful Police Lt. Randy Pickett.
"Why he picked us, I don't know," Pickett said.
Stone was booked in the jail at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday and was released 20 minutes later after Rebel Bail Bonds posted the $150,007 bail, said Davis County Sheriff's Lt. Brad Wilcox.
Stone, whose law office is one block from the Cottonwood Police Department, is charged in 3rd District Court with one count of second-degree felony stalking, four counts of third-degree felony discharge of a firearm and one count of third-degree felony obstructing justice.
The charges stem from an incident on July 2 in Cottonwood Heights, Babka said.
"In a nutshell, it involves a former sister-in-law of his, who is also his employee," Babka said.
Police were called to her condominium July 2 after neighbors heard gunshots. Officers found two windows shot out and recovered four bullets, he said.
The woman, who had moved from the residence, told police Stone has been stalking her for several years, including electronic surveillance.
"She had been afraid to come forward before because of the family connection and her employment," Babka said.
Cottonwood Heights filed the felony charges against Stone on July 16. A warrant for his arrest was issued July 19.
Stone had filed for divorce from his current wife on June 1 in 3rd District Court in West Jordan.
According to the court website, a Harold Wise Stone with the same birth date had been charged and convicted of several misdemeanors in 1998 in 8th District Court in Roosevelt.
Stone's website said he received his law degree from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego and his bachelor's degree from University of Utah.
