OGDEN — Malachi Darcey, the 30-year-old West Point man who was beaten by a group of men Sunday night at a West Haven bar died early today.
Chris Dallin, spokesman for McKay-Dee Hospital Center, confirmed the man’s death in a news release sent Monday morning.
Darcey was at the Outlaw Saloon, 1254 W. 2100 S. in West Haven on Saturday night with his fiancee, Sarah Whitaker. As they were leaving the bar early Sunday morning, a fight broke out.
Whitaker told the media someone made an insulting comment as she and Darcey left the establishment and when Darcey came to her defense, he was attacked by several men.
Darcey was treated at the scene and was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden in critical condition.
Weber County Sheriff's Office Lt. John Morrow said the investigation is still ongoing, and they have not made any arrests.
"We're asking for anyone who was in the area who possibliy witnessed it to come forward," he said.
Anyone with information can contact the Sheriff's Office Investigations Section at 801-778-6631 or Weber Dispatch at 801-629-8221.
A press conference is scheduled for later this afternoon, where more information should be available about the attack and the ongoing police investigation.
