12-year-old bicyclist from Ariz. killed in S. Utah

SANTA CLARA — A 12-year-old Arizona girl was hit and killed Saturday by a sport utility vehicle.

Keiara Roberts of Kingman, Ariz., had been visiting relatives and was pronounced dead at the scene Saturday.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Dan Ferguson said the girl and a cousin were riding toward traffic along the shoulder of Old Highway 91 when an SUV driven by Tricia Longmore, 37, of St. George, struck them, throwing the girls into a small gully.

Ferguson said Roberts likely died on impact.

Her cousin was released after treatment at a hospital. She suffered cuts and bruises.

Ferguson said Longmore said she was unsure if she fell asleep or blacked out. The accident is under investigation.
