WSU's Lillard embarks on a new journey

OGDEN — As a kid, long before he was recruited to Weber State, before he really even knew where the school was or became a two-time Big Sky MVP there, Damian Lillard would choose the Wildcats as his team on a college basketball video game.

Lillard’s next real game will be in the NBA; team to be determined.

The 6-foot-3 point guard from Oakland, Calif., will leave school after his junior season to make himself eligible for the 2012 NBA Draft. He will become the 16th Weber State player drafted and is expected to be the first to be taken in the first round.

Rahe proud how Wildcats fought through adversity

OGDEN -- On Feb. 28, Weber State took a 14-1 Big Sky record to Missoula with a chance to seal the Big Sky regular season title and host the conference tournament at home. Montana brought an identical league record to the showdown, the first time in Big Sky history two one-loss teams had met.

Wildcats' Lillard named AP All-American

Kansas forward Thomas Robinson has even more in common with Blake Griffin now. Not everything, though.

Robinson, who played through personal tragedy as a sophomore reserve, capped his junior season by being a unanimous selection to The Associated Press' All-America team Monday, a day after leading the Jayhawks to the Final Four.

Meanwhile, Weber State junior guard Damian Lillard was named to the third team. He is the first player ever from Weber State and from the Big Sky Conference to be named to the AP All-America team.

No decision yet, but Lillard leans toward leaving

OGDEN -- Damian Lillard is leaning toward leaving Weber State early for the NBA but hasn't made a final decision yet.

"I'm definitely leaning toward that most likely, but I haven't made a decision for sure whether I'm going to leave or not," Lillard said.

The 6-foot-3 junior point guard from Oakland, Calif., had one of the top individual seasons in WSU and Big Sky history, earning third-team All-America honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches as one of the top scorers in the country at 24.5 points per game.

OGDEN -- Weber State junior guard Damian Lillard has earned All-America honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Lillard was named to the All-America Third Team Tuesday and becomes the first Wildcat to ever earn All-America honors from the NABC.

'Mid-Major' Lillard would be wise to follow Stuckey's lead

Before we go any farther, let's get one thing straight: Weber State guard Damian Lillard is still a Wildcat. With another year of eligibility to use, he can come back next season and lend his considerable talent to help getting Weber State into the 2013 NCAA tournament.

The 'Cats fell short this season and there's little doubt Lillard would love another shot at the tournament.

'Cats miss shots, blow shot at title against Grizzlies

MISSOULA, Mont. — In the pregame build-up, Tuesday’s Big Sky title clash between Weber State and Montana was billed as epic and historic.

Now those words can be used to describe the Wildcats’ disappointment at losing the Big Sky Conference crown on the final night of the regular season.

With a stifling defense, Montana locked down a 66-51 win over Weber State in front of a rowdy sellout crowd of 7,157 fans at Dahlberg Arena.
