Theme set for Senior Gala Dinner-Dance at Davis High

KAYSVILLE -- "Those Were the Days" is the theme for the fifth annual Senior Gala Dinner-Dance.

Hosted by Davis County Health Department Senior Services, the event is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 18 at the Davis High School commons and cafeteria at 325 S. Main St.

Members of the Diamond Dance Company have a hard time pinning down exactly what they love most about their group.

ShayLynne Clark, a soon-to-graduate Weber State University student, worked with the WSU Chamber Choir and a student dance teacher to collaborate on a performance called "Coil." The project was part of Clark's research on how groups come up with ideas. She found that groups with a leader who steps back when ideas are flowing come up with more creative ideas than groups with an overbearing leader or a leader who doesn't truly lead. WSU student: Groups solve problems more creatively with right leader

OGDEN — ShayLynne Clark plans to graduate from Weber State University in May and head to medical school this fall. And for her four years of hard work, she will take with her three bachelor’s degrees, in anthropology, microbiology and interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis on chemistry.

She’ll also take with her the strong belief, backed by her own research, that people who work together productively as a group can solve problems a lot more creatively than they could in groups with overbearing leaders.

KAYSVILLE -- Crowded around tables, children busily painting tiny pumpkins -- and as one child stood up to leave, another was there to take the vacated place.

Kacy Wilson attended the Monster Mash & Dash with two of her children -- Rafe and Ripley -- who sat at opposite tables, causing their mom to run back and forth to help each of them.

"The kids have enjoyed this a lot," Wilson said of the city-sponsored event Saturday evening at Heritage Park. "They have been begging me to paint pumpkins. They have seen signs around town (about the event) and have been looking forward to it."
