Elva Montgomery Thompson, 98, of Huntsville, died Sunday, November 6, 2011. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2011, at the Huntsville 1st Ward Chapel, 277 S. 7400 East, where friends may call before the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. Interment will be at Eden Meadow View Cemetery, 2150 N. 5300 East. Ogden RDA OKs land donation for DUP site

OGDEN -- The Ogden Redevelopment Agency Board approved the donation Tuesday night of less than a half-acre for relocation of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum and a historic cabin.

Box Elder County history book offered for sale

The Box Elder South Company of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers has announced the reprinting of “The History of Box Elder County (1851-1937).”

This 300-copy limited edition is the third printing of the book. It is soft-bound and available for purchase at the cost of $25 for one or $20 each for two or more books by contacting Maryann Jensen at 435-734-9272.

Listed are some of the interesting facts found in the book: The first Peach Day celebration was held in the late summer of 1904 (page 68). George Jason Wells was the first male child born in the county. He was born Aug. 23, 1851, in a wagon box (page 5). Phillip Ettlemen was the first man buried in the Brigham City Cemetery. He was dragged to death by a runaway team on Nov. 16, 1854 (page 7).

Association shows how much Utah cities spend per resident

KAYSVILLE -- The city of Kaysville has the second-lowest government cost per person out of 30 Utah cities with populations of 20,000 or more, according to the Utah Taxpayers Association.

Camp Honeycomb planning fundraiser

The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Camp Honeycomb will hold a bake/yard sale 7 a.m. to noon Saturday to raise money for the DUP museum in Ogden. The sale is at 918 Chambers St. off of Highway 89, near the Arctic Circle and Sinclair station. All proceeds will go to help our museum, which is in great need of repair.

Marjorie Vernon Brown, Coalville

Marjorie Vernon Brown died Friday, May 20, 2011. The funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, May 26, at the Coalville Stake Center. Viewings will be 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, and 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Thursday at the stake center. Interment will be in the Hoytsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS Church’s Perpetual Education Fund. Post condolences to the family at www.walker-mortuary.com.

DUP companies to hold convention

The Far South and Far South Center companies of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers will hold their annual convention at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Comfort Suites Hotel, 2250 S. 1200 West. The theme this year is “Our Heritage, Our Responsibility.”

A drawing for door and quilt prizes will be held; tickets may be bought at the door. Proceeds support the Ogden Pioneer Museum. A luncheon will be held at noon.
