WEMBLEY, England -- Britain's Olympic team coach Stuart Pearce will travel to the United States next week to watch David Beckham play for the Los Angeles Galaxy before deciding whether to select the 36-year-old midfielder for the London Games.

LONDON -- David Beckham remains in contention for Britain's Olympic soccer team after surviving the latest cut in the squad.

MLS moves on minus Beckham

LOS ANGELES -- Au revoir, David Beckham.

Although your aides-de-camp keep insisting nothing has been decided, everybody knows your move to the French club Paris Saint-Germain is pretty much a fait accompli.

(By the way, David, I hope you're reading this closely because you really should learn the language.)

When the deal does become official -- which probably will be after New Year's to assure the greatest possible media coverage -- we hear a "movie star" unveiling will be staged in central Paris. Sounds as if this will be the biggest signing on French soil since the Treaty at Versailles.

And the French may wind up regretting this deal almost as much.

AP Exclusive: Beckham visits abused kids in Manila

MANILA, Philippines -- Away from fans' prying eyes, David Beckham took time out from soccer to share his experiences and listen to Filipino children struggling to rebuild their broken lives.

"It's so important to have a dream," Beckham told the former street children Friday at a UNICEF-supported shelter in a suburb of Manila, the Philippine capital where he and his teammates from the Los Angeles Galaxy are playing an exhibition against the country's national team this weekend.

On the sidelines of the Galaxy's Manila trip, Beckham, who is also a UNICEF goodwill ambassador, visited the shelter for children who have been rescued from the streets. They shared tales of domestic abuse and crime -- some fell victim to drugs or were abandoned by their parents.

MLS commish Garber praises Beckham's tenure

LOS ANGELES -- Commissioner Don Garber thought he knew what Major League Soccer was getting into when the Los Angeles Galaxy signed David Beckham more than four years ago. Garber now realizes he had no idea what the Beckham Experience would mean for his fledgling league.

A few days before Beckham plays for his first MLS title in the final days of his Galaxy contract, Garber says the league doesn't regret inviting the English superstar to become the face of MLS in 2007.

"I underestimated the power of his celebrity by a long shot," Garber said in an interview with The Associated Press. "I think we underestimated the challenge of (Beckham) playing for England, and we didn't expect his desire to go out on loan (to AC Milan). But I also totally underestimated how hardworking and tough he is. He will play through injury and fatigue. That warrior-like mentality was like nobody expected in MLS. This guy wants to win, and he'll do anything. He's been great for our league and for our game."

Galaxy advance to West finals; Real Salt Lake will play L.A. on Sunday

CARSON, Calif. -- David Beckham says he's having the most enjoyable season of his five with the Los Angeles Galaxy. The only thing that would make it better is a championship.
