Bountiful officials scrap Davis Arts Center renovation in favor of a new city hall

BOUNTIFUL — City officials will scrap plans to build a new regional museum as a wing on the existing Davis Arts Center, in favor of a plan to build a new city hall on Main Street and move the museum and arts center into the existing city hall.

Members of the city’s Redevelopment Agency voted 5-1 late Monday afternoon to initiate plans for a new city hall and a renovated city hall building, which will eventually be home to the museum and arts center. Councilman Fred Moss was the only RDA member to vote against the plan.

Boutiful officials rethink museum expansion

BOUNTIFUL -- Some city officials are having second thoughts about pouring money into an old building as part of a plan to create new space for a regional museum.

Just days away from starting a plan to expand the existing Davis Arts Center on Main Street to facilitate a new museum, some city leaders want to look at other options, even as the cost to renovate the structure is going up.

Play raises questions about bullying

Davis School District officials have learned through the years that every effort -- both big and small -- helps in the fight to stop bullying in schools.

One of the district's recent efforts includes a live play performed by students from the Theatre Arts Conservatory in Salt Lake City, which is working to bring the message about bullying to nearly 30 schools in Davis School District.

The play, titled "Amukis and the Donkleberry Suitcase," is no ordinary play. It has a beginning and middle, but no ending -- a first for the group, which has been creating different plays for schools for several years.

Davis Arts Council cheers results of summer concert series

LAYTON -- Kenny Loggins can add another achievement to his resume. The singer/songwriter was the first performer in the Davis Arts Council's Summer Nights With the Stars to play in front of a sold-out Kenley Centennial Amphitheater.

Loggins wrapped up the 2011 series in September with the DAC's biggest show since the summer concert series began in 1995.

DAC officials say Loggins' show for a crowd of 1,800 put an exclamation point on an exciting summer.
