FRUIT HEIGHTS -- Life changed dramatically for Shelley Nettesheim when her husband died in a car accident and she became a widow at 24.

The Fruit Heights woman wanted to finish her education for the sake of her two young children. She put herself through school and earned a marketing degree from the University of Utah.

KAYSVILLE -- Companies and individuals need to protect their trade secrets and financial information the way Kentucky Fried Chicken protects its secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices, FBI officials warn.

Taste of the Town attendees enjoy fare from Davis restaurants

LAYTON -- The skies were mostly overcast, but the threat of a shower didn't deter the crowds Monday at the annual Taste of the Town North event at Layton Commons Park.

The event, sponsored by the Davis Chamber of Commerce, attracted 20 area restaurant owners and food operators, who showcased menu items to those who dined in the shade of leafy trees.

Busy as a B2B: Conference draws more vendors, onlookers

LAYTON -- The fourth annual Davis Chamber Business 2 Business Expo on Wednesday attracted hundreds of onlookers and 92 vendors -- 17 more vendors than it had in 2010.

Many of the first-time vendors spoke about how they attended the five-hour event to promote their service to others.

Troy Moultrie, owner of Skyline Merchants Solution, said he brought his Syracuse-based business that processes credit-card transactions to the event "to get my name out there."

Davis County tourism board talks 2011 budget

CENTERVILLE -- Most of the $4.2 million generated yearly in Davis County tourism tax revenues has been committed already to one project or another.

But there is about $100,000 available beginning this calendar year, excluding the $2 million set aside in reserves, that the Davis County Tourism Advisory Board can begin to invest in tourism-promoting projects, Davis County Clerk/Auditor Steve Rawlings said.

Rawlings shared that news Thursday with the board at its monthly luncheon meeting. This month's meeting was held at the CenterPoint Legacy Theatre in Centerville.

Top of Utah chambers team up

SALT LAKE CITY -- Three Top of Utah chambers of commerce have joined to form a government affairs partnership to promote issues important to the three counties.

The announcement was made Friday morning in the Capitol by members of the chambers and local lawmakers.

Chris Dallin, chairman of the Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce, said even though the three chambers -- Ogden-Weber, Davis and Brigham City -- are joining forces for legislative priorities, they will still be three separate chambers of commerce.

Davis chamber honors businesses

LAYTON -- The Tomo Therapy Cancer Treatment Center in the Davis Hospital and Medical Center was one of five organizations honored recently at the annual Davis Chamber of Commerce awards banquet.

About 500 people attended the event at the Davis Conference Center, said Jim Smith, Davis Chamber of Commerce president and CEO.
