FARMINGTON -- Having big-name stars like Kenny Loggins and the Indigo Girls come to Layton to perform takes organization and money.
Recognizing that, the Davis County Commission, on Tuesday, approved a request from the Davis Arts Council to make a $2,500 donation to the concert program, which is featured every summer at the Ed Kenley Centennial Amphitheater in Layton.
The donation provided to the DAC is to be specifically used for its Summer Nights With the Stars program, County Commissioner Bret Millburn said.
This year, Loggins and the Indigo Girls are part of that summer schedule.
Millburn said the county, at the request of DAC Executive Director Kirt Bateman, made the same donation to the program last year.
The money provided to the DAC comes out of the county's tourism tax revenue fund, Millburn said.
The county makes a similar donation to Bountiful's Summerfest event, also held each summer, he said. The commission views Summerfest in Bountiful and the concerts scheduled for Layton "as having a countywide impact," Millburn said.
Bateman, who attended Tuesday's commission meeting to receive the donation, expressed his appreciation.
"We're really proud of our program," Bateman said, "and we appreciate your support."
County Commissioner Louenda Downs said the county made the donation to the DAC because, although the DAC program and its offices are headquartered in Layton, the organization serves the entire county.
The Summer Nights With the Stars schedule begins at 8 p.m. June 25 with Show Layton Your Talent III.
