SALT LAKE CITY -- Utahns will no longer be able to sue a hospital if a doctor is negligent.

Senate Bill 150, sponsored by Sen. Stuart Adams, R-Layton, was approved by the House, 54-20, on Tuesday.

The bill now goes to the governor for further consideration.

The bill provides that negligent credentialing as a cause of action will not be recognized in a medical malpractice act.

Supporters of the bill said that it is in the best interest of hospitals to hire only those medical professionals who are good at their jobs.
