Davis Hospital earns recognition

LAYTON -- Davis Hospital and Medical Center has been honored for its efforts to enhance patient-focused services and increase patient satisfaction, receiving the 2011 HealthInsight Certificate of Recognition for achieving the greatest overall improvement in Patient Perceptions of Care.

The award was presented at the annual awards dinner of the Utah Hospital Association on Oct. 6.

439th Aeromedical Staging Squadron to train at Davis Hospital

LAYTON -- For the next two weeks, nurses and medics from the 439th Aeromedical Staging Squadron will train at Davis Hospital and Medical Center.

Navigator helps patients battle cancer

LAYTON -- Being a part of a patient's journey from cancer diagnosis to cure is a priceless experience for Nancy McFarland.

McFarland, who recently achieved the status of Certified Breast Patient Navigator for both imaging and cancer treatment at Davis Hospital and Medical Center, said a diagnosis of breast cancer is, of course, unsettling, and each patient's journey is different.

"There is so much a patient needs to know and do as they move through their journey from surgery to cure," McFarland said. "Using a certified navigator can lessen the burden."

Surgeon is named Davis County Doctor of the Year

LAYTON -- Dr. D. Glen Morrell recalls treating a young mother who, in the prime of her life, received a devastating diagnosis of breast cancer.

Layton woman, 82, volunteers 50,024 hours ... and counting

LAYTON -- When you volunteer, Shirley Mortensen believes, it increases your knowledge and causes you to be more concerned for others.

The 82-year-old Layton resident has racked up more than 50,024 volunteer hours. She will be honored for her service work in April when she receives the Silver Bowl Award from the Volunteers of America, Utah/Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.

Davis chamber honors businesses

LAYTON -- The Tomo Therapy Cancer Treatment Center in the Davis Hospital and Medical Center was one of five organizations honored recently at the annual Davis Chamber of Commerce awards banquet.

About 500 people attended the event at the Davis Conference Center, said Jim Smith, Davis Chamber of Commerce president and CEO.
