FARMINGTON -- City officials have finalized the small details of a deal to sell City Hall to the Davis County School District for $1.3 million.
Though a general outline of the sale was announced last year, details of the agreement were finalized Tuesday when the city council voted 5-0 to approve the sale of the North Main Street facility.
The school board approved the same agreement in April 2009, according to Shauna Lund, a community relations specialist for DCSD.
The city is not expected to vacate the building until at least July of this year, when a new City Hall is scheduled for completion on South Main Street.
Funds from the sale of the existing structure will be used as part of the $3.5 million financing package for the new city facility, located next to the swimming pool and the Farmington Community Arts Center. City officials also used funds from a $3.5 million bond approved by voters in 2006 to help finance the construction. City Manager Max Forbush said the building is being financed without raising any new taxes.
One wrinkle to the final purchase agreement involves the city museum, just to the south of the existing City Hall. The two buildings are serviced by one sprinkler system, and as part of the accord, the city will assume responsibility and the costs associated with separating the system.
Mayor Scott Harbertson and other members of the city council praised district officials for the way negotiations between the two entities have gone forward.
"The school district has been great to work with," Harbertson said.
In a related item, the council also voted to approve an interlocal agreement with DCSD on Tuesday pertaining to cross parking and maintenance between the new City Hall and Farmington Elementary School.
