Utah National Guard honors 6 for community service

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah National Guard is honoring six people and organizations for their service to the community. One of the honorees has ties to Layton.

Maj. Gen. Brian Tarbet presented the Bronze Minuteman awards during a dinner Wednesday in Salt Lake City.

The honorees include the Utah Patriot Guard Riders, which has about 1,000 members and attends military funerals to honor the dead and shield grieving families from protesters.

Also being honored is Ruby Price, the first black teacher in Layton and in Utah, and Greg Adamson, who co-founded the Heart 2 Home Foundation that leads home makeovers for needy families.

Other recipients are Command Sgt. Maj. James Sproul, Monsignor J. Terrence Fitzgerald and Honorary Colonel Fred Lampropoulos.
