WSU's Dee Events Center honored for 'green' renovations

OGDEN — Weber State University’s Dee Events Center, the site of Friday’s commencement ceremony, has a new, hard-won certificate of its own.

The Dee Events Center has taken top honors in the entertainment/cultural facility category of the EPA’s Energy Star national building competition, also known as the Environmental Protection Agency’s Battle of the Buildings.

The Dee Events Center cut its energy consumption by more than 20 percent, through energy-saving renovations and through energy-efficiency training of the building’s staff.

State 5-A boys basketball tournament: Warriors, Titans, Darts claim first-round victories

OGDEN -- Region 1 champion Weber is off and running at the state 5-A boys basketball tournament.

And the Syracuse Titans and Davis Darts have joined them in the quarterfinals, with another Region 1 team in action later today.

Weber posted an easy 68-39 victory over West on Monday morning at the Dee Events Center.

Morgan High to break tradition by holding graduation at Dee Events Center

MORGAN — For the first time in nearly a century, Morgan High School graduation ceremonies will be held outside the county.

Graduation season keeps Dee Events Center hopping

OGDEN -- Dee Schenck stood sentry Monday at Dee Events Center, smiling at Bonneville High School seniors in their caps and gowns, greeting proud parents and extended families, and keeping a keen eye out for unwelcome intruders.

Former Weber State athletic director Gardner passes away

NORTH OGDEN -- Former Weber State athletic director Dale Gardner died Friday at his home in North Ogden. He was 83.

Gardner was an all-around athlete while attending Weber State College and then at Utah State University, and after his nine years as WSC athletic director, was the first administrator of the Dee Events Center.

Gardner was born March 27, 1928 in Deweyville. He married his high school sweetheart JoAnne Harper in February 1947. The two were married for 64 years, and had six children, 34 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
