Tuesday morning’s commute saw one serious accident in Box Elder County, a jackknifed semitrailer in Davis County that shut down lanes and an accident at the mouth of Weber Canyon that closed it for about an hour.

Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson said the Box Elder accident happened at 8:38 a.m. Tuesday on State Road 30 at Milepost 94 just north of Bear River.

Foot of new snow on top of Sierra; headed for Utah

RENO, Nev. -- A wet winter storm in the Sierra that dumped up to a foot of snow in the upper elevations also brought a couple of inches to the valley floors, making for a messy Monday morning commute in Reno.

Forest Service urges caution

OGDEN — The U.S. Forest Service issued a reminder Wednesday that new snow has made recreation in the Wasatch-Cache-Uintah National Forest more hazardous.

Because of heavy snow in Alaska this year many moose have been killed on roadways and railroads.

Deep snow may lead to record moose traffic deaths

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A dull-brown moose with a prominent rack steps delicately on to Anchorage's Minnesota Drive in the January afternoon twilight, as cars streak past.

He stops traffic as he ambles into deep snow on the edge of the road -- barely avoiding becoming part of the growing ranks of the winter's unlucky moose.

For moose, heavy snowfall means misery, and this winter is shaping up to be a deadly one.
