Box Elder's Jensen signs with Wildcats

OGDEN -- Weber State women's golf coach Jeff Smith recently announced the signing of Kristie Jensen from Box Elder High to a letter of intent.

"Kristie is a talented player in multiple sports, and we are very happy to have her joining our program," Smith said.

Jensen was the No. 2 golfer for the Bees starting in her freshman season, and led the team the past two years. As a junior and a senior, she earned all-state honors, placing fourth at the state tournament both years.

LDS Church president to speak at Dixie commencement

ST. GEORGE -- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints President Thomas Monson will deliver the commencement address to Dixie State College graduates.

Tuition increases approved for public universities and colleges

SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah's Board of Regents has approved tuition increases averaging 7.5 percent for the state's eight public colleges and universities.

Two local athletes among Dixie's incoming class

ST. GEORGE -- Dixie State College welcomed 19 new football players on Signing Day 2011. Coach Scott Brumfield and his staff released the list, which includes a pair of Top of Utah athletes.

The group is led by Davis High receiver/safety Daniel Moffett, a 6-foot-3, 210-pounder; Northridge High defensive back/running back Brock Johnson, a 5-10, 175-pounder. Both signed out of the tough Region 1.

The others: DB Brandon Brown, a 6-0, 190-pounder from Kanab High and Snow College; DB Danny Payne, a 5-11, 180-pounder from Cottonwood High and Snow College; and DB Cache Morgan, a 6-foot, 195-pounder from West Jordan High who tranferred from Utah State.

Dixie State plans 2 new degree programs

ST. GEORGE — Dixie State College officials are hoping to expand course offerings to add two new four-year degree programs. It was reported that the school plans to add math and math education degrees.
