Forum at Episcopal Church to look at domestic violence

CENTERVILLE -- The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 1131 S. Main St., in Centerville, will hold a forum at 7 p.m. May 2 on how to support victims of domestic violence.

Speakers from the Utah Domestic Violence Council and the law enforcement community will address the audience about common concerns encountered by victims and tell of community resources available to help victims and families, a news release from the church states.

Jail-bound nunchakus thrower from Centerville slams court-ordered anger course

FARMINGTON — A 31-year-old man accused of hitting his wife with nunchakus told a judge the eight-week anger-management course he took was a waste of money.

Second District Judge John R. Morris then sentenced Andrew James Lukenbach on Monday to serve 90 days in Davis County Jail, allowing him work release and time out to go to therapy.

Layton police identify man shot at trailer park

LAYTON — Police have identified the 22-year-old man shot by officers at a trailer park Wednesday night as Brian Harris.

Police investigate Layton shooting, wonder why man defied orders

LAYTON — Police are investigating why a 22-year-old man failed to comply with police orders, which led to his being shot and admitted to a local hospital in critical condition.

The shooting occurred at Quail Ridge Mobile Home Park, 935 E. Highway 193, Layton, just east of Hill Air Force Base.

Man pleads guilty to stealing from ex-girlfriend

OGDEN -- A man has pleaded guilty to a campaign of harassment against his ex-girlfriend, including break-ins, beatings, threats and stealing her jewelry, that finally ended when his bail was revoked.

Manuel de Jesus Flores-Sierra, 26, pleaded guilty to the most serious charges against him last week -- several felony burglaries -- in return for dismissal of an array of charges of assault, violation of a protective order, theft, and domestic violence in the presence of a child. He is to be sentenced Dec. 7 before 2nd District Judge Ernie Jones.

Clothesline project raises awareness of violence, sex abuse

OGDEN -- The green T-shirts signified survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

Red shirts represented survivors of rape or sexual assault. The white Ts were to remember those who died as a result of violent acts.

Weber State University students gathered Wednesday at the Diversity & Unity Center and used paints and markers to decorate shirts with messages of hope and understanding. It's all part of the Clothesline Project to recognize domestic violence, spread awareness and increase intervention.

Workshop focuses on relationships during Domestic Violence Awareness week

OGDEN — The Weber State University Women’s Center will present a Tuesday workshop on healthy relationships as part of Domestic Violence Awareness week.

The free workshop, to focus on identifying signs of violence, will be at noon in Room 232 of the Shepherd Union Building. Weber State is at 3848 Harrison Blvd. For information, call 801-626-6372.
