FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- A Virginia congressman failed Tuesday to gain enough support to halt a colleague's plan to reopen 1 million acres near the Grand Canyon to new mining claims.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Language in a bill to fund the Interior Department for another year would put an end to a ban on new mining claims near the Grand Canyon.

Drilling in Utah natural gas field gets feds' OK

SALT LAKE CITY -- The federal government is proposing to allow drilling on a large natural gas project in eastern Utah that officials say will open nearly 3,700 new wells and create thousands of jobs.
