FARMINGTON -- A man convicted of manslaughter has pleaded guilty to attempted possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to serve a year in jail.
Michael Don Moll, 21, of Layton, appeared in 2nd District Court on Thursday and entered the plea to the class A misdemeanor.
Judge Thomas L. Kay sentenced Moll to serve one year in Davis County Jail -- giving him credit for time he has already served -- and sentenced him to two years probation.
Moll was booked in the jail on March 1 after Layton police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Moll was a passenger in the vehicle, according to court documents.
He had his hands in his jacket pocket and when asked to remove them, "a baggie containing methamphetamine fell on the seat where he was sitting."
He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, a third-degree felony and two misdemeanors.
Moll had pleaded guilty to second-degree felony manslaughter in connection with the stabbing of Karl Paul Kuhn in the parking lot of Macey's Food and Drug in Clearfield on Sept. 11, 2006.
He was sentenced to a year in Davis County Jail and placed on three years' probation.
In June, Judge Thomas L. Kay ordered a competency evaluation for Moll. In September, Moll was admitted to McKay-Dee Hospital's psychiatric ward because he had failed to take his medication while in jail.
