CENTERVILLE -- A Salt Lake City man enjoyed a 420 moment Wednesday night but lost his buzz when police arrived, smelled pot smoke and found what he called his personal stash: 35 pounds of marijuana.
William H. Flury, 28, was arrested after Centerville police caught him moving into a vacant home at, coincidentally, 420 N. Main St.
Police Lt. Paul Child said it was interesting to note that the informal code word for smoking marijuana is "420," which was the address of the home where the arrest took place.
Flury was charged with marijuana cultivation and booked into Davis County Jail. He also was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of paraphernalia, Child said.
The 35 pounds of marijuana that was seized consisted of 3 pounds of raw marijuana, as well as 26 cut, full-grown plants and six growing plants, Child said.
Officers discovered six large, live marijuana plants in 5-gallon buckets, a large grow light and paraphernalia, four large garbage bags full of freshly cut marijuana and multiple containers filled with marijuana bud.
Flury claimed that all of the plants and pot were for his personal use, Child said.
Police went to the home on a report of a man moving into a vacant home without authorization from the owner, Child said.
Officers arrived and contacted Flury, who had just arrived at the residence with personal items with the intent of moving into the vacant home.
Upon arrival, officers immediately smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from Flury's BMW sport utility vehicle and a utility trailer attached to it.
Centerville police dog Justice was called to the scene and indicated the presence of a controlled substance in the BMW and trailer, Child said.
Officers found in the trailer a large garbage bag containing fresh-cut marijuana plants, he said.
Davis County Metro Narcotics Task Force assisted with the investigation. Child said a search warrant was obtained to search the SUV and contents of the trailer.
